Went to Malvarosa on a Wednesday night with some friends and it was a big beautiful hearty homely meal, and a very enjoyable evening.

We ordered one or two small plates for each of us, shared some paella, and then went through the whole dessert menu. Food was excellent. Delicious, and cooked and plated right beside us in the small kitchen area. It was exciting to see the measured theatricalilty that goes into creating the dishes, now that they have been perfected through years of service.

Among the small plates, I believe we liked them all. The aubergines were great. Chicken, fish, prawn, all were tasty. Loved the gravy on the meatballs, had to order extra bread (which was excellent as well) to soak it all up. The paella was fantastic as well.

Special mention goes out to the Choco Loco (coffee with coconut rum and cream) and the Churros (comes with excellent thick chocolate sauce - with just enough bitterness) and the basque cheese cake (just the right hint of sourness).

All in all a very enjoyable meal. It strikes the proper balance between being a reliable neighborhood restaurant but also a quiet special place. Recommended.

Muy mala experiencia como lugar “español”.
El local tiene una estupenda terraza donde nos sentamos para comer. El camarero era amable pero siempre teníamos que ir a pedir a la barra y estaba un poco perdido.

En cuanto a la comida no es que sea mala es que no es española. Podrían decir que se han inspirado y entiendo que si me siento en un lugar español fuera de mi país no va a ser lo mismo pero es que las recetas no sólo eran incorrectas sino que en algunos casos no tenían nada que ver. Por ejemplo la berenjena rellena como su propio nombre indica no estaba rellena, era un salteado de verduras que incluía berenjena con un triángulo de queso encima. Todo tenía una calidad pésima, sorprendía para mal…. Fue una pena absoluta, nunca me había pasado algo así. Espero que intenten mejorar porque tienen buena localización, buen local…
El potaje de garbanzos o cualquier potaje no lleva pasas… por favor pasas al potaje?
La escalidaba es que pobres catalanes se inventaron absolutamente el plato.
Respecto a las albóndigas insípidas y tristes…
En cuanto a porciones y precio nos pareció caro y poco, pero lo hubiéramos pagado encantados por comida española medianamente decente y no salir con hambre…

Small authetic Spanish reservation, walking distance from Portobello beach.

Walked in for dinner around 6:30PM on a Friday night and glad we got a table. Tapas here are unbelievable, and they make excellent margarita. Suggest to call and ask if they have a table to avoid disappointment.

We decided to have lunch at Malvarosa today and the experience took us all the way to Spain!! The selection of home-made breads was an excellent starter and a great way to introduce the food that was to come. There were only 2 of us, hence why we could only go for 2 tapas each, but they were all individually perfect and prepared in an exemplary manner. We finished with a slice of cheesecake as a dessert, which was one of the tastiest cheesecakes we've ever had!!! We would love to be back and try more delicious, wholesome Spanish food! Thank you for serving us and for providing us with outstanding dishes!

Yummy small plates and great service! The fried eggplant was delish! I suggest you make a reservation as they are quite small and pretty popular.

We recently dined here for a evening meal. The restaurant is small and it was quiet when we were there. Service is faultless, the waiter was very attentive and welcoming. We ordered calamari for starters which was good. For mains we had a paella. Unfortunately our dish was lacking flavour. Despite the dish looking nice, it was quite bland actually. It was almost like they had missed a few spices. I regrettably never mentioned anything to the waiter because I am sure he would of provided assistance but I don’t like to complain. Our desserts were lovely. I had the almond cake and my wife had the cheesecake. I am giving this 3 stars because our main meal was a disappointment. I reckon if we had ordered some tapas our score would be much higher but sadly the paella wasn’t the best.
