I have been loyal to the YMCA for 10+ years - but this location has really gone downhill. The bathrooms are filthy, kids posing in the bathrooms to take pictures for social media with no regard to everyone else who is changing in the locker rooms, the machines are in terrible shape, and the “personal trainers” schedule large classes everyday during the busiest times and post signs around the gym blocking anyone from using the equipment.

How can anyone workout on their lunch break when you block half of the gym off?

I've been to all the YMCAs in this area and I've come to the downtown YMCA on and off for almost 5 years now and it is not a stretch to say this is most well-ran facility of them all. The staff is great in every category here and I have to say John specifically is such an asset to this location. He is truly a go-getter and you can tell he is passionate about taking care of this gym and its people.

Amazing experience!! Garrett did a wonderful job taking care of me and helping me get a 1 month membership! He was very professional and personable and answered all my questions! The sauna room was a wonderful experience also, helped me relax after a tense few weeks, but If you ever need a gym to go to, this is the place, and Garrett will give you 5 star customer service!!

In August I changed debit cards and didn’t think to switch my card information over at this gym (my fault). On October 25th I paid the late fee of $30 + the month of September. Total of $70. I told the lady all of this and that I wanted to re-up my membership. She said she’d get my new card information and that I was good to go. I lifted shortly after and then came back and lifted again on Sunday the 27th. Not once after paying the late fee did they say my account was still flagged. Today the 28th, I go into the gym and your employees don’t let me in. No re-upping my membership like your employee told me she did. No week pass. Hell, They wouldn’t even let me pay for a day pass. “The system is down” then how are you seeing my “flagged” account? Also, If the system has been down since Oct. 25th, how did I pay the $70 on Oct. 25th? I only use this gym because it has deadlift bars otherwise I wouldn’t come here. How do you lie to someone multiple times and feel good about that? I’m not a Karen at all but cmon man…I had to say something because I don’t want this to happen to someone else in the future. Just work with me here.

This is one of the most impressive YMCAs I’ve seen. The layout is great. The selection of workout equipment rivals the most expensive private clubs I’ve seen anywhere. The staff is kind and proud of their work. Add to that the utilization of the facility is awesome.

I have been a loyal member of the ymca for as long as I can remember. Have even attended pre K at the YMCA, I also applied to be a lifeguard which I turned down due to the schedule not working with me being in college and it has been a place where I felt welcomed and included. Recently however I had an experience at the downtown Robert D Love YMCA that made me feel otherwise.

I started going to the downtown location because I love the area, and up until now, I have never experienced any form of discrimination. Unfortunately this changed when I had an encounter with a manager named Isabel. The incident began when Isabel confronted me about my swimsuit, a bikini that I have worn numerous times over the years without issue. I even have a picture of the exact bikini that I wore which should have been allowed at the swimming pool because it was not a thong, it was a bikini.I have never had any problem with any lifeguard regarding this swimsuit before even other swim managers.

Despite the fact I had been wearing the swimsuit for years, Isabel singled me out and criticized my choice of attire. I immediately acknowledged her concerns, apologized, and assured her that I would not wear the swimsuit again. However instead of accepting my apology, Isabel continued to yell at me, disrespecting me in front of everyone at the pool, including my mother. Her aggressive behavior made us feel so uncomfortable that we decided to leave the pool early.

What made this situation even more troubling was that while Isabel was focusing her attention on me, there was a couple nearby who were engaging inappropriate behavior- Making out and behaving suggestively in front of children. Despite their behavior, Isabel chose to target me, who was minding my own business, away from the children. Leads me to believe that her actions were not merely about enforcing rules but were driven by discriminatory motives, particularly racial biases.

I have been coming to this gym multiple times per week for years, and I have never had any problems until this encounter with Isabel. Her actions made me feel targeted and unwelcome, and I strongly believe that her behaviors was not only unprofessional but also racist and discriminatory.

This experience has left me deeply hurt and disappointed, and it has shattered the sense of belonging I once felt at the YMCA. I hope that by bringing this issue to light, steps can be taken to ensure that no one else has to endure the same treatment I did. If I get no response on here on how things are going to change, I will also write it on Google reviews and yelp. I don’t think this is something that should be quiet because no one should feel discriminated at a place where everyone is supposed to feel welcomed when they pay for this monthly to be welcomed.

The head manager does not even care and has not even got back to me on the subject. She also threatened to kick me out because of my swimsuit or when I looked at the family swimming pool rules for all of the YMCA’s it said nothing was wrong with my swimsuit to begin with. The only rule for bathing suits was that it could not be cloth material and you cannot wear T-shirts or shirts. Another rule on there that I noticed that did pop out was no intimacy In the pool.

Clean and good Y in Wichita Downtown!
I went on a Saturday morning and experienced a lesser crowd than before. Being in downtown this Y attracts many active people. It has a huge basketball court, gym area and studios in the top. Swimming and other hot sauna amenities for members to use.
I love the Y group activities. There are drinking water faucets near studios convenience. Enjoyed my workout at this location.
